Bar Stools

Measure from the floor to the underside of your benchtop. For a 90-92 cm kitchen counter (standard NZ kitchen island), choose a counter stool with a 65 cm seat height. For a raised breakfast bar at 105-110 cm, choose a bar stool with a 75 cm seat. Leave roughly 25-30 cm between the seat and the underside of the bench.

Allow 60 cm per stool with arms, or 50 cm per backless stool, so people are not bumping elbows. A 1.5 m island comfortably seats 2, a 2.0 m island seats 3, and a 2.4 m island seats 3 with arms or 4 backless.

Backless stools tuck fully under the bench when not in use, keeping the kitchen visually open - good for small spaces or sightlines into a living area. Stools with a backrest are more comfortable for long sit-down meals or working from a laptop. Many of our designs come in both versions.
